2019-12-18 The Physical Education College Successfully Held Special Lecture on “Beijing Winter Olympics and Olympic Education”

On the afternoon of December 17, 2019, the Physical Education College successfully held a special lecture on “Beijing Winter Olympics and Olympic Education” in the Lecture Hall of Dongrong Conference Center on the Central Campus. Wang Jun, Director of the Education and Public Participation Division of the Press and Publicity Department and Director of the Liaison Office of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies Department of Organizing Committee for the Beijing 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, was invited as a guest speaker. More than 440 audience, including the leadership team of the Physical Education College, teachers, graduates and undergraduates, attended the lecture. The lecture was hosted by Pang Jincai, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Physical Education College.

Secretary Pang Jincai began by extending a warm welcome to Director Wang Jun for this special lecture in spite of his busy schedule and briefly introduced Director Wang Jun to the teachers and students.

In the course of the lecture, Director Wang Jun talked extensively, from the origin of the Olympics, Olympic elements, Olympics in China, the preparation of the Beijing Winter Olympics, introduction to the Winter Olympics, Olympic education, etc., elaborating on the ancient history, vigorous development, and cultural significance of the Olympics and sharing his personal experience in preparing the Beijing Winter Olympics. This helped the teachers and students better understand the Beijing Winter Olympics and sportsmanship. Multimedia were adopted in the lecture, such as video playback and picture presentation. The combination of audio and video allowed everyone to relive those moments and personally resonate with them. At the lecture, Director Wang Jun also interacted with the students by randomly asking questions, giving away Winter Olympic souvenirs, etc., to warm up the lecture and make students more actively participate.

Finally, Secretary Pang Jincai made a concluding speech. He pointed out that physical education was more than just sports, but also a culture and a spirit. Physical education included pedagogy, mathematics, physics, anatomy and many other disciplines. This lecture gave participants an in-depth understanding of sports through a detailed introduction of the Olympic sports, Olympic culture and Olympic spirit, and inspired the teachers and students of the college to think about how to teach and learn the essential issues of sports.
